Ride the Blue Wave
A great night for Democrats nationwide.

I’m writing this with no shortage of joy, perhaps the most joy I’ve felt in several years.
Tonight, Democrats completed a nationwide sweep of every single major race.
Every single one.
The Governor of Virginia will be a Democratic woman: Abigail Spanberger.
The Lt. Governor of Virginia will be a Democratic woman and the first Muslim American elected lieutenant governor of any state: Ghalaza Hashmi.
The Attorney General of Virginia will be a Democrat: Jay Jones.
Virginia Democrats, by night’s end, will have substantially increased their majority in the House of Delegates, perhaps by ten seats or more.
The Governor of New Jersey will be a Democratic woman: Mikie Sherrill.
Democrats will retain control of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, 5-2.
Georgia Democrats defeated both Republican incumbents for statewide seats on the GA Public Service Commission.
Zohran Mamdani won in a landslide for Mayor of New York City.
Prop 50 in California—the ballot initiative to fight back against GOP redistricting elsewhere—will assuredly pass when the polls close in a few hours.
Democrats did not lose a single major race tonight. Not one.
I have so many things to say about the results tonight, but there’s something which certainly stands out to me that I wish many Democrats in Congress would take to heart.
Republicans across the country spent the past several months engaging in the most vicious anti-trans propaganda as part of their primary messaging.
They sent mailers demonizing trans youth. They ran commercials and radio spots hurling transphobic bigotry at voters. They relentlessly gave interviews saying the most hurtful things about trans people.
And they lost every single race tonight. It completely failed to resonate with voters.
I have watched as these Republicans shamelessly dehumanized the trans community, and the Democrats in these races refused to throw us under the bus, even as I’m sure there were consultants and pundits telling them to do so, publicly and privately.
But they didn’t.
Abigail Spanberger was probably the most pilloried by anti-trans propaganda, and she would not take the bait. She did not attempt to triangulate and treat us like bargaining chips. She didn’t take the advice of the James Carvilles of the world. She rejected the call for her to reduce us in order to boost herself.
I’m very happy tonight. This is the happiest I have felt in a long time.
Ride the blue wave. Celebrate. Tonight is a damn good night.
Enjoy it, y’all.

I am so relieved. I needed this win.
Charlotte, we stand with you and celebrate, as we ride this big blue wave! And I do believe, when the dust settles, there will be a reckoning for all of this injustice that we’re experiencing.
