The worst of the effects do not start for a few years, so the Republicans will be able to blame someone else and our purposefully ignorant populace will believe them. That the Democrats have been unable to come up with any strategy to meet this moment is infuriating. I recall the Republicans in the minority being able to block most of Obama's agenda. When do they stop playing politics as usual?
The terms "communist" and "socialist" no longer instill fear and hatred among most people in the US. Most people couldn't define these terms, and neither can most politicians since they use them interchangeably. There is no Red scare any more; it's generational and in the distant past. PS: I began making a monthly donation to the ACLU during GWB's second term when it became very apparent that individual freedoms were being taken away. You may not agree with every lawsuit that the ACLU files, but you should be able to agree that it fights for our freedoms.
Not sure if it’s because Independence Day is tomorrow or what but I just became a paid subscriber. You inspire and motivate me, Charlotte. Thank you and I hope you have a great holiday weekend. I hope all of us defending democracy do.
The bill is the worst thing to ever happen to people in this once democratic republic. It should energize resistance against the regime who uses cruelty as a cudgel to accomplish its hellish goal - to remove all brown people from our country.
Every one of us will feel the effects of this attack on our nation, especially those minorities like LGBTQ+ and those who came in search of the ‘American Dream’.
Women are also denigrated by this regime, we are expected to “know our place” and not disagree with the all powerful white men.
We must stand and fight like those who fought against the monarchy of George III. Only by peaceful protest can we regain the power that should belong to “We the People”.
It's going to take significant progressive policy change to pull this country back to the center, and that seems to mean booting out the old guard from the Democrats. My proudest moment of the last few days was being able to say that I voted for Josh Riley! We need more people like him, Zofran Mamdani, and AOC. And you bet your boots that if I get the chance to vote for them, I'll be doing it. Thus ends the rant from the old Gen X coot!
"Democrats in the House and Senate fought back valiantly, managing to successfully remove numerous other cruel provisions that would have made this bill somehow a lot more inhumane than it is now. Every Democrat in Congress voted against this bill." Does this mean the bill from the Senate is changed and will have to be voted on again by the Senate?
