As a mom of a disabled veteran from Afghanistan and mother-in-law of three sons, disabled in Iraq and Afghanistan, I appreciate your words. They lost friends and have been forever damaged. Watching a new war with no clear goals or an exit strategy has been hard to swallow because I know from experience how many lives are destroyed regardless of whether they come back in the hold of a plane or in a seat. We must never forget their names or the true cost of these conflicts.
This is also a wonderful piece of writing! My dad, too, was a Vietnam War veteran who served as an artillery battalion commander from 1968-1969, my freshman year in high school. I remember the time just as described. Thank you for writing it.
Thank you Charlotte, for bringing us back to compassion, caring, truth, sorrow, loss, the value of every single life, Every. Single. Life. Thank you for reminding us to be deeply human.
Thank you, Charlotte, for the 'friendly advise.' Most especially since I didn't know their names, either. How's that for shameful. And that picture is heartbreaking. I have much to learn. No news there.
Thanks for sharing their names with us. It's important that we remember them for their service to this crazy "excursion". A printout of your message put where we see it daily would keep it front and center for us. So Sad.
Well said, Charlotte.
Yeah, “only” two men were killed in a 1960 Air Force training operation in Alaska.
Sadly, one was my father.
But yeah, “only” two were killed.
People need to watch their words….
Thank you, Charlotte.

It’s why I wrote this piece… https://danismart.substack.com/p/opposing-this-war-is-the-most-patriotic?r=1c5095&utm_medium=ios

Thank you for allowing them to know their names

Thanks for sharing the names of those we have lost in this totally unnecessary war. One person lost is one too many.

God bless you Charlotte. Thank you for these important names and Thank you for your service and sacrifice!
Thank you for this. It's a tragedy on so many levels.
That was elegant. Of all the things I’ve lost, it’s my patience I miss most. 😎

PS. . .What about those who've been injured. . . .
As always, thank you for the reminder.
Thank you.
I agree with you 100%!
Thank you.
