I did not know your mother had died. I am so sorry.

And thank you for being you. You give us hope and you make me laugh. For that I am grateful.

I have to sincerely say, Thank you! I have been feeling very beaten by the past year and life in general lately. Your writing, especially in this article, has given me hope. Hope for the same reason that I am a dedicated West Wing fan.

You help me know that there is someone out there that still believes things can get better, and there are good people out there trying to do just that.

Thank you,

Jana

Thank you for your words, Charlotte. I have seen so many social media posts recently about how this year won’t be any better than the last, and it has left me honestly baffled. Of course, it can be better! But we must make it that way. I’m looking forward to reading more of your work and embarking on a hopeful 2021!

I’m with you Charlotte. Never lose hope. These last 4 years were miserable but good things came out of it. Good people got off their butts and marched and campaigned and voted. Compassion, competence and good humor will be back in the WH soon, with a cabinet representative of the people they serve. It won’t be perfect, but nothing ever is. We will learn from our mistakes and grow. The glass is more than half full again.

I enjoy your often funny Twitter, but I think a lot about your thread on childhood hunger & shame. So glad you're moving forward with your writing career.

Thank you for this, and for being on Twitter where I first learned your name. Hope. We have a saying in our family of 2: my husband, upon finding a pile of horse manure outside on Christmas morning would be in digging KNOWING there was a pony in there somewhere. I, on the other hand, would put hands on hips and say, "Who left this pile of shit out here?". It's hard for me to hope in general, but now, hope is all I have. At the end of the day, or the year in this case, it's hope that is seeing me through. Sending you a hug.

You are such a writer. I loved your story about Kathryn Joosten — I had no idea! What a testament to grit and determination. (And I especially love that she is Mrs. Landingham because The West Wing is my comfort show.).

So sorry to hear about your mother. It was a tough year of loss for everyone, yet you still provided the inspiration and reality checks I needed. Thank you so much.

Turning the page on a difficult year. Change your life, change the world. It all starts with you, learn how willingness to be vulnerable and becoming grounded in who you are can help us all to transform society.
