Thank you Charlotte for an udderly delightful read! As a native Minnesotan, I am of the opinion that our state fair is the best in the country, and that's no bull.
Charlotte, have you ever seen “Butter”, a very funny movie centering around a butter sculpting competition at a state fair? Jennifer Garner (way against type), Ty Burrell, Olivia Wilde, Kristin Schall and lots of others!🤣🤣
As a native Wisconsinite I was somewhat surprised that the Dairy State’s butter cow didn’t receive a mention, but perhaps that’s a story for another day:
You will get a lot of "Hey, my state fair has butter sculptures!" comments, I'm sure. The Texas State Fair has one - sometimes a cow, sometimes something in keeping with the Fair theme. One year it was a dung beetle. The birthday cake a few years ago weighed a thousand pounds, according to the site. Not sure a wire sculpture would weigh that much. Of course, looking under the surface in Texas leads to revelations much more horrific than wire.
I never went to the Colorado State Fair when we lived there because it was all the way in Pueblo which would require an overnight stay. We did attend the Denver County Fair and saw Devo play, which was way weirder than a butter cow and much more fun.
Given the large number of Americans who do not get enough food to eat, and the rise in the price of food in the last several months, these state fairs wasting huge amounts of butter for this stunt troubles me. Maybe they could donate the butter to public food distributors instead.
Not from MN but the Minnesota State Fair is the BEST fair I've ever been to. I was fascinated the first time I saw Princess Kay and her court being sculpted in giant blocks of BUTTER! It is cold inside the glass display (I think it even rotates) and the young women are wearing puffy coats while the artist sculpts. They get to keep the butter heads - imagine taking your head home and popping it in the freezer to carve off bits through out the year! The butter heads are my fave part of the fair! Sorry for the non butter headed fairs. Not the same experience!
You do have quite a whey with words!
Trying to think of a clever comment, but I am cowed by your writing talent.
I live for puns and bless you for making this entry chock full of them. Delightful, Charlotte. Thank you.

Totally agree - but I only lived there 8 years

I see what you did here and it was a nice giggle this morning. 😄
Minnesota, Minnesota, we are south of Manitoba . . . Ann Reed at the fair. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HFdQ9O8drA

It is reused. It’s not wasted.
