I am being awakened almost every night by the nightmare I see every day. Barbara Tuchman's Marching toward Folly is unfolding in front of me every day. I do not want to admit that I am in despair, because that would be a loss for me.
I jumped off the WaPo train when they refused to endorse Ms Harris. I have seen nothing to redeem them in my eyes.
I get most of my news here on Substack and on Mastodon. But even here, I am trimming my daily reading to Heather Cox Richardson and you, Charlotte. It really is all too much.
Thank you for your update on The Washington Post. It's sad to see such a once-great news source in decline. Further, it appears that The New York Times is also going in the same direction.
Perhaps a more appropriate motto for WaPo might be, "Hello darkness, my old friend."
Thanks for providing this collection of WaPo hirings and departures. I had maintained my subscription, even after the killing of the Harris endorsement, in support of the few remaining journalist and cartoonists I follow. That ended this morning.
I quit WaPo when Lewis was hired. Anybody raised up by Murdoch is not worth the time.
My one quibble with this essay is defining Ashley Parker as anything other than a Maggie Haberman wannabe. I understand there are compromises in adult life and adult jobs, but if more reporters could have found a way to tell really hard truths during the last 8 years maybe, just maybe, we would be in a different space.
There was far too much going along to get along by all involved.
Journalists want book deals more than they care about revealing truth in real time.
This cannot be a surprise to anyone watching the buying up of our 'News media' by entertainment companies over the past 20+ years. News/facts are NOT supposed to be entertainment; their job is to inform truthfully.
Yesterday Facebook announce that they will no longer bother checking facts.
All of this makes me sick. Every day I am grateful for being at the end of my life and I weep for young people growing up in this new world.

I quit WaPo when they refused to endorse Kamala. Can you recommend any major media newspaper that's worth following anymore?
