They’d rather blame it on God than accept responsibility for their cruel and heartless decisions.

THANK YOU, Charlotte, for this essay. It's infuriating. Utterly. I mean, on an airplane, they tell you that "in case of a water landing" there are personal floatation devices & life rafts on the plane & under your seat. There aren't prayer books under your seat. Prayers might float us emotionally...but in a flood, if you're 11 years old (or 40 or 60 or 35).... The horror is monstrously real and tragically, will doubtless be repeated. Vote'em out. Then they can pray on their own time.

God is just the convenient excuse employed by everyone in this travesty of a Republican Party who created Project 2025 which is what THEY want, and is likely the polar opposite of what God wants. The nerve of these monsters who have tried to co-opt Christianity, patriotism, the US Constitution and are using their “power” like a bunch of rich, drunk, KKK frat boys! Every single one of the Rs in Congress and 2/3 of the “Supreme” Court… along with the rat bastard in the oval office need to be out on their asses and replaced by actual patriotic civil servants who will do their damn jobs.

As always, your words are incredibly moving. I wake up angry too. But unlike you, I’m having a hard time with grace. Particularly now. In Texas. In America. I love both. But it gets harder every day. Thank you for what you do for all of us.

I wish the people who most need to read this would do so, but they get their own news and opinions, so it’s not likely to happen. I agree with all of your sentiments, but mostly about climate change. Just go outside folks!

I couldn't agree more. I'm sick of all this blaming God. We're given the ability to make choices. If we make irresponsible ones, that's on us.

As usual, I am grateful to you, Miss Charlotte! Beautifully written and I agree completely.

And don’t even dare start on the sloppy theology of “everything happens for a reason” because that is grade A BS also.

People can be pretty good at making silk purses out of sows’ ears or finding the silver linings, but it sure as shit doesn’t mean things are preordained and happen for some ultimate reason.

You spoke to my heart loud and clear, Charlotte! I saw and heard crap like this from other military chaplains during my time in uniform.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you, or a feisty politician like Jasmine Crockett or Bernie Sanders or AOC, stood on the steps of the Texas capital and yelled out these exact words? Clearly the Republicans got their talking points; this entire missive should be ours.

As a person of faith, I agree. The man who said “We don’t want to cry wolf.” made me so angry I almost lost it. Crying wolf may have saved all of those children and also the adults. It never ceases to amaze me that the GOP has so little concern for human life. They are monsters!👹

As always, you put it together so well, so thoroughly. As a New Englander who moved to Kempner, Texas in the 80s, I can tell you that I learned pretty quickly what "flash flood" meant. What will we do when we finally get our country to listen?? What will we do with all the know-nothings?
