If, for whatever reason, you don't want to sign the petition, please send an email to Schumer tonight letting him know how you feel about his wanting to vote for the CR. Sadly, he does not have voicemail on his Senate line so you can't call, but you can send an email, even if you don't live in NY. https://www.schumer.senate.gov/contact/message-chuck
He should have voicemail available this morning. They shut down voicemail after business hours. (I e encountered that before this week, so it’s not a reaction to this situation.)
I’m a NYer and I couldn’t agree more. It’s long past time. We need leaders willing to fight and stand up to Republicans. The old days of collegiality and “the world’s greatest deliberative body” are over. McConnell killed that dead.
Thank you Charlotte, you summed up eloquently how I feel about our Senate leadership. If they are going to vote for the horrible CR it should be totally conditional on stopping the Musk/Trump illegal activities. We give up all our leverage otherwise. How stupid is that? No, beyond stupid, but rather unforgivable.
Sent Schumer an email. Signed the petition & sent a contribution; small though it is, it is what I can afford. Why would he agree in advance to the destruction of our country? He needs to quit right now & let someone who is willing to fight to take the leadership position.
Smarter people than me can debate this budget. I'm here to say the Schumers of American politics need to step aside for younger reps. I will sign the petition because the time of boomers running things needs to be over.
I spent way too much time on Twitter making sure he was copied on as many Senators posts who were explaining why they were voting no, along with many other posts I found strong messages from. I truly believe it is time to take a stand, a real one and throw down the gauntlet to say we will not accept this insanity. It is not politics as usual and he should not pretend that it is.
I signed last night Charlotte. The betrayal I feel is palpable. I could give a litany of issues on which I’ve given the Democratic leadership benefit of the doubt. From Obama. It standing up to McConnell blocking his SCOTUS choice, to Merrick Garland taking time to “dot the i’s and cross the t’s”; from not enforcing ing subpoenas to allowing trump to even run in 2024. And not even challenging the results of the 2024 election when there was reason to do so, even if they lost the challenge. You are allowed to challenge.
Republicans use every tool in their arsenal, and even make up tools to use. Democrats are showing us that they care more about the pomp than the circumstance. They protect a tradition that no longer exists, sacrificing their constituents and what’s left of democracy and for what?
What angers me most is that Schumer changed his mind in less than 24 hours after saying we had the votes against cloture and the CR. What changed? Because his reasons for doing so were nothing new. No new facts emerged. And he isn’t forthcoming on what he learned in that 24 hour period. Not only that, we were led to believe democrats had this one opportunity to fight and that they would use it. Now he gives that up, and Democratic opposition will never be taken seriously again. Betrayal and abandonment. Also not listening to us when we said we understood the repercussions, but did not want to give our permission to enable fascists. trump and musk are gonna do what they’re gonna do; I’d rather they do it without my implied approval. I’m livid that now they’re gonna say, see, even democrats are on board.
Signed and shared on Bluesky - Thank you for putting this up for us to sign. I also sent emails to both Sen. Durbin and Sen. Duckworth, our IL senators, because Aaron Rupar is showing both of them as not having stated which way they will vote.
Perfectly said, as always. Signed the petition, sent him an email, and a expressed my displeasure in response to one of his posts on BlueSky. Obviously I'm not the only one enraged -- he's not getting any love over there.

Thanks for this! I agree wholeheartedly. No money until change is made.

Thanks Charlotte for your blog. I’m livid. What does this accomplish? No donations, agreed. He threw the District to the wolves. Appalling.
Thank you Charlotte! Signed!

Change.org links to X and not to Bluesky. This is bullshit! No Nazis no how!
Yes yes yes! He can go hang out with Nancy!

I agree with you 100%!
Thanks for the heads-up.
