"I want the suffering to stop.Any conversation on this matter not being directed toward that end feels like a waste." I totally agree but, as long as angry, hateful, powerful men make these decisions we will continue to see suffering.
Damaged, little men imposing their evil on the people of their country and the world. Trump, Netanyahu, Putin, Orban—the list is endless. It is so deeply distressing.
Charlotte, you always seem to dig down to the nub.
I tend to do a lot of self-editing - because of nuances I will not engage in sharing my opinion on some issues. I also tend to not want to know a lot of details about people who are not permanent t fixtures in my life. I don’t want to know how the guy who is great at fixing my plumbing votes, for instance. I’m not entirely comfortable with this, mind you. But it helps me manage. Because people do make snap judgments once they find out your politics. I’m able to boycott companies; I’m still fighting all out boycotting of people. (There is a line, though.)
Too many leaders in democratic societies have learned how to co-opt religion to their benefit (Netanyahu, Trump, Orban).
I am 65, in 1974 in High School I was given an extra credit project to write about the Israel/Arab conflict. Religious fanatics are dman near impossible to defeat. They reside on both sides in this ongoing conflict. I don't ever see ending something that is based on "belief".
Thank you for putting my thoughts into words, Charlotte
