Thank you, Charlotte. You have a remarkable talent for helping to understand the human condition. Starting in November 2016, I found an extreme lack of joy in my life. I believed that to experience joy during that time was to minimize all of the awful things happening around us. I, too, avoided sitcoms, funny movies, SNL... Then my wife and I discovered Ted Lasso. The exceptional writing and acting made it impossible to ignore. Ted's humanity, clear eyed view of others pain and flaws, and ownership of his own faults were a model for experiencing joy in that horrible time. We've been rewatching seasons one and two to get ready for season three. Bring on March 15!
Oh, yes, yes and yes. This really hit the spot for me, especially since it's so well written. I ignored Ted Lasso when it aired because I generally don't like TV (or streaming) comedies. There have been exceptions, but too many rely on their laughs by making fun of people with insults or prat falls, or other obvious cliches. I also decided to watch Ted Lasso because everyone was talking about it, and I too became hooked. I hadn't really thought about why, but I agree with the reasons you stated. I can't wait for season 3. Thank you for the preview.
I watched the Season 3 opener on Wednesday. I had a completely different viewing experience. Alls I could see was Mitt Romney dressed as Ted Lasso for Halloween. And how self congratulatory white supremacy the whole thing is. Teddy Roosevelt famously said- The only good Injun’s a dead Injun’!”
And that racial breakdown of The Simpsons where white people are yellow- and Black and Brown people are Black and Brown. The part where Nate’s Lego figure is Brown- of course they make the bad guy the Brown guy.
And I cringed so hard at Keeley who’s even more anorexic than before. She looks like she needs to be hospitalized for an eating disorder much like Emily In Paris. As someone who had an eating disorder it’s traumatic AF to see anorexia portrayed as chic and fashionable. It’s horrible that image of all these young women starving themselves to be thin like Keeley or Emily. In 8th grade I dropped from 119 lbs down to 91 lbs. I quit menstruation for a couple years. It caused me a lifetime of infertility. Two women in the medical school class ahead of me in Memphis died in their sleep from anorexia. It’s gross that no one says anything about it. Sorry, the world seems to be imploding and Ted Lasso spouting Brené aphorisms is salt in the wounds.
I also resisted watching what I thought was just another typical sitcom with the twist being it was about the world of soccer. A few weeks before the season 2 premiere, I decided to give it a try, mainly because I was bored with anything else I was watching. It did not even take watching an entire episode to realize this was not a typical comedy and if the writing held up, the hype was well earned. Just watching how everything is not resolved by the end an episode or two, and seeing the characters have to go through their own growing pains to end up in what they consider a better place has been very refreshing. The show portrays a side of humanity we do not often see. I am looking forward to season 3 and whatever might come afterwards (or not).

This was awesome. I love your writing, the things you share, and your perspective. Be well and be loved - Kate
You write so beautifully, with such awareness, and from the heart. I appreciate you.
My life is very full, so Ted Lasso is literally the only TV I watch. I'm looking forward to season 3.

The Lasso Test! I love it!! Thank you for that and for your enjoyable review!
Once again, Charlotte, you summarize so succinctly how lots of us feel. Well said!

Now I’m crying and I haven’t seen the show!
Thank you for this. I needed it. :)
