A story Mel Brooks tells about “Young Frankenstein” Hackman volunteered to do a brief appearance. Brooks had only seen Hackman do serious stuff, wasn’t sure he could be funny.

Hackman’s appearance as a blind monk was great.

We started the scene worried about Hackman’s character encountering Peter Boyle’s monster&quickly became afraid for the monster. A hoot.

Same, same about Crimson Tide. Got a Jack Russell terrier because of Hackman's character having one. Same, same about watching anything with Gene Hackman.

Thanks for this, Charlotte. Gene Hackman was a longtime favorite. As an IU alum, I loved Hoosiers, but my favorite of his movies was The Conversation. I hope you are doing OK.

I met Gene Hackman in NYC when I was a kid and it remains one of my favorite moments. May he and his family rest in peace.
