Unfortunately, people who lie to give themselves an advantage, assume that everyone else is also lying; otherwise they'd have to face the truth about themselves. Vance's comments also seem to imply that being trans, like being gay, is a "choice". I've never understood why straight men are so afraid of people who aren't straight. They obviously have not done any historical reading since LGBTQ+ people have existed in every society forever. Do they think it's catching, or are they afraid of their own unresolved sexuality issues?

I once walked down a street in Davis CA (not a red or intolerant town, for those who do not know California- not by a long way) and heard a man - bearded, birkenstocked, stereotypical California hippie/prof vibe) say to his wife as I passed “that’s a dude.” There are no “safe” places. No rational person would give up the advantages of being CIS for some minuscule edge, not even to go to an Ivy (and UC Davis is no slouch school). JD Vance is an obscene cynic. Trans people who come out show a self awareness and courage that he simply cannot comprehend-and their supportive families are the people his children will dream of.

I'm not sure how to word this, so i apologise in advance if it comes across clumsily.

Anyone who is outside the WASP 'normal' (i.e. trans, working class, POC, etc) nd gets to attend an Ivy League university does have one advantage over the WASP. The outsider has had to achieve more to get where they are, they have to have better inter personall skills, and (probably) better conflict management skills, just to get where they are.

I'd suggest this would (in a just world) makes them a better graduate and future employee ...
