I love this! As someone who used to work in the system that handles immigration issues, I appreciate your common sense and non-emotional/factual response to the crazies out there who think immigration is cut and dried. It's not. You've got this, Charlotte!
All of this! ALL of it! When, oh, when, will common sense and intelligence from our leaders and our citizens rule the day? If Trump and the Project 2025 people win, NEVER.
You are so very correct to chastise the left and ultra-progressives for their constant criticism of the Biden Administration. I watched Biden's talk yesterday and did not see any sign of "old" except his white hair. I am just 2 years shy of his age and I am still running my own company and doing all I can do to support democracy. But I can never do as well as Biden!
Can we all do better? You betcha!
This business of closing the borders is racism personified. If we lose all of our immigrant labor, we will starve to death.
Thanks again, Charlotte, for the voice of reason. Really love how you can "bring it home."
Yes, yes and yes. Not only is the whole anti-immigrant rant ridiculous (and it only applies to immigrants who are not white), but who in their right mind believes they're 100% any race/ethnicity/culture? My grandparents on my mother's side "came over on the boat" from Ireland. They met in Gary, Indiana and had three daughters. My grandfather died from working in the steel mills before I was born, my grandmother took in laundry and died when I was in infant, and my mother was an RN. My grandparents on my father's side were mostly Irish with a bit of German thrown in for good measure. My mother used to tell stories of sitting in her parent's kitchen when she was in high school and helping other relatives fill out their green card and citizenship papers. I grew up in St. Louis and there were different street fairs for the Irish, German, Italian, Polish, Greek and other nationalities (great food), but almost all white where I grew up. Mexicans and others from South America and the Caribbean came later. Although hardly perfect, we used to value the fact that the US is a mixture of race/ethnicity/culture until Republicans realized they could instill fear and get votes based on hate. About 18 years ago I spent two weeks in Japan, which was an incredible experience. However, I'll never forget that as soon as I landed it was obvious I was a foreigner. I'd never felt that before and it was eye opening. In the US you really don't know who's who unless you speak to someone, but in Japan physical features made it obvious I was foreign (fair skin, freckles, red hair). I'm 71 years old and realized a very long time ago that everyone is different and brings unique and special abilities, talents and thoughts to the table. We need to help people get over their fears and learn to live with tolerance. It's exhausting but we have to keep working towards this.

"Selective Christianity is a hell of a thing." Yes! Love it!

Thank you. I appreciate your common sense toward complicated problems.
Thank you for being a calm, intelligent and thoughtful voice. And I will say it, We are Lucky to be the Destination of Migrants.
