What a great story, about two amazing Americans and amazing people. The unexpected is often the most memorable and gratifying. I was a 16 year old when Carter was elected, and my political thinking was formed - no, re-shaped, because I had been very aware of Watergate and the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement - around the realization that yes, decent people CAN go into politics. I found it tragic when that decency was turned against him, but he never lost it.

Thank you for this. What a great memory. I voted for Carter in my very first election - the one when he lost reelection to Reagan. Imagine the world we'd live in now if things had turned out differently. A true mensch.

Such a lovely thoughtful and joyful article. The joy of the magical concert and the heartfelt memories of Jimmy Carter -- much appreciated today given the stress and strife of this time in our democracy and our national discourse. Much appreciated Charlotte and the web of good people here.

Oh, that’s lovely. I’ve been so sad hearing the news about President Carter, but know that he led an exemplary life. I’m proud to have voted for him twice.

Ahhhh. Your writing is such a gift. & your voice sharing it is a nurturing balm today. President Carter is one of my role models, a gentle, honest, kind leader. He will soon hear the words he so deserves, “well done, my good & faithful servant.”

Thank you for this story, Charlotte.
